General

4 questions

Residential general contracting in Bakersfield and Kern County. Kitchen remodels, bath remodels, additions, ADUs, and whole-home renovations. We don't do commercial work or ground-up custom home builds.

Yes. California State License Board #B-548291. We carry workers comp, liability, and general indemnity insurance on every project. Documentation is provided as part of your written quote.

Frank Ellis founded the company in 1972. His son Robert joined in 2003 and runs operations today. The company has been continuously operating in Bakersfield for over 50 years.

For larger projects (additions, ADUs, whole-home renovations) we sometimes travel further. Call to discuss — we'll tell you honestly whether it makes sense for your project.

Pricing & Timeline

4 questions

Bath remodels typically run $18K-$60K. Kitchens $35K-$120K. Additions $120K-$400K. Whole-home renovations $180K-$600K+. These are typical ranges — your written quote will reflect your specific scope and selections.

Bath: 3-6 weeks. Kitchen: 6-12 weeks. Addition: 3-8 months. Whole-home: 4-9 months. Permit timing can add 4-10 weeks before construction starts.

Yes. Typically 10% to hold your spot on our calendar, with the remainder paid in milestone payments tied to specific build phases (rough-in complete, drywall complete, etc.). Final payment is held until you sign off on the final walkthrough.

You won't — not without your written approval first. Material allowances are clearly listed in your quote so you see them before ordering. If you choose higher-end items than the allowance, you see the difference before we order. If we hit an unexpected condition mid-build, you get a written change order with cost and timeline impact before we proceed.

Process

Call (661) 555-0142 or fill out our request form. We'll have a 15-minute conversation to understand the scope, then schedule a free on-site walkthrough. You'll have a written quote within one business day of the walkthrough.

One project manager from the first call to the final walkthrough. You'll have their direct phone number. For most projects, your PM is Robert Ellis (the owner).

Yes. Changes are documented in writing as change orders — with cost and timeline impact — before any change is made. You approve in writing, then we proceed. No surprises on the final invoice.

A short Friday update each week with photos, what got done, what's next, and what we need decisions on. Plus your PM's direct line for anything urgent.

Permits & Warranty

3 questions

Most projects do — anything involving structural changes, plumbing relocations, electrical upgrades, or expanding square footage. We handle the permit process as part of your quote, including all county and city paperwork.

One-year written workmanship warranty on everything we install. If our work fails within 12 months due to defective installation, we come back and fix it at no charge. Manufacturer warranties on materials (cabinets, appliances, fixtures) are separate and depend on the product.

Call us anyway. We've been around long enough that we still get calls about projects we built ten years ago. We'll come look. If it's clearly our work that's failing, we make it right. If it's wear or a different issue, we'll tell you straight.

After the Build

3 questions

A signed-off punch list confirming everything is complete, your written workmanship warranty, all permits closed and final inspections passed, manufacturer documentation for installed products, a list of paint colors and finishes used, and an itemized final invoice.

For routine maintenance most homeowners can handle, we'll point you in the right direction. For larger issues, just call. We don't do dedicated maintenance contracts but we don't leave clients hanging either.

Often. About 52% of our work each year comes from repeat clients. If you remodel the kitchen now and want to tackle the bathrooms in three years, give us a call — we'll be there.
